Kartini: From Darkness to Light is a powerful board game that combines strategy with history and social engagement. In Indonesia in the late 19th and early 20th century, you lead a girls' school. Your goal? To graduate as many young women as possible, so that they can continue the fight for independence as politicians, fighters, teachers and patronesses.
By making clever use of your resources — money and books — you try to make your school flourish. Pay attention to your reputation, because it partly determines your influence. After three rounds, the player with the most points wins.
Inspired by real history
The game is based on the true story of Raden Adjeng Kartini, a Javanese aristocrat who campaigned for women's emancipation and education. Her letters to Dutch friends later formed the book From Darkness to Light.
